Welcome to Pakse, where the Mekong River weaves tales of ancient civilizations and the rugged landscapes boast an unapologetic allure. This isn’t your average tourist trap; it’s the hidden gem in Laos’s crown, where adventure and culture blend effortlessly.
Start your journey in Champasak, where time slows to a leisurely pace, allowing you to immerse yourself in the echoes of a bygone era. The revered Vat Phou temple is a testament to the region’s rich cultural heritage, its weathered stones whispering stories of Khmer glory, and where you’ll encounter raw history pulsating through the temple’s ancient corridors.
Venture further to the 4000 Islands, where the languid flow of the Mekong reveals its playful side. No crowds, no chaos—just you, the river, and a sense of utter tranquility. Unwind in your own private riverside villa, where the only soundtrack is the gentle lullaby of the Mekong’s currents.
But don’t let the calm fool you. The Bolaven Plateau, a lush expanse of coffee plantations, remote hilltribe villages, waterfalls, and untamed wilderness, is a playground for the intrepid. Strap in for off-road adventures, rev up those adrenaline levels, and let the muddy tracks be your guide as you explore nature’s playground in all its raw glory.
Pakse isn’t just about sightseeing; it’s about experiences that awaken the soul. It’s about savoring the finest Laotian delicacies while swapping stories with the locals who call this rugged paradise home. Let go of the mundane and embrace the extraordinary—Pakse is the playground for those seeking a dash of adventure and a dollop of local luxury.
Please note these experiences can only be booked as part of a longer multi-day itinerary, and are not available as standalone trips.
Tucked away on the vibrant “Red Island” of Don Daeng, La Folie is more than just a lodge—it’s a quirky haven where the Mekong River’s enchanting views come alive. Picture yourself in the Mekong View Bungalow, where local materials and rustic charm create a space that’s as enchanting as it is comfortable. Step onto your private terrace and let the stunning vistas of the Mekong and Vat Phu hills take your breath away!
But that’s not all. Get ready to savor the local flavors at the open-air poolside restaurant, where every dish tells a story of freshness and quality sourced from nearby markets. And when the sun starts to set, head over to the bar under the famous elephant wooden sculpture for a refreshing Lao Beer or a tantalizing cocktail. Don’t forget to grab a good read from the cozy lounge area too.
Indulge in a pampering session at La Folie Spa, where nature’s soothing melody will lull you into a state of pure bliss. And if you’re feeling adventurous, how about a “Sindat” feast under the stars? It’s a hot pot and barbecue extravaganza guaranteed to tantalize your taste buds like never before.

Pake has a typical Southeast Asian climate, with hot, wet summers and warm, dry winters. Rainfall is rarely excessive and comes in short bursts, so even wet season travel is both possible and enjoyable.
But for optimum conditions, we recommend October-February, when the rain all but stops and temperatures are a little cooler than usual, especially at night – perfect weather for a cold beer on the banks of the Mekong!
